FORD: 548 Days I Waited
Ford and RandyHello, my name is Ford.

On April 5th, 2008 I was brought to the Humane Society as a stray, a street thug and a man’s dog with very special qualities, so they say. My strong good looks, coupled with my fun & easy attitude made me the “Johnny on the spot, ready to go” shelter dog. I was the shelter demo dog for dog walking classes, represented my shelter friends two years at Wild Wind Craft Festival and also was a special guest in the Maurice’s fashion show. (I look great in my Doogles). I love to play and especially in the pool-running, jumping and splashing.

The staff and volunteers were wonderful to me, but I patiently waited for my perfect person. Days, weeks and months and then a year went by and so did other dogs in the kennel.

Then Randy came in. He loves me for who I am.  I am Randy’s dog and he is my person.  We bonded quickly. I am well behaved in the house and smart.

548 days I waited and finally found my forever home.

Julies kidsWe received Christmas greetings from Cyrus, Hoya and Gabby Chamberlain.  Cyrus is a Humane Society alumni.

Molly

Molly Chamberlain, also a Society alumna, does not like Christmas.

Thank you to all who send pictures and updates of our former society kids.  We love happy tails!

Carolina Goes to Brooklyn!
Carolina and FainaYou may often wonder where do our pets go when adopted? The internet has opened up our adoptions to the world. People from all over the eastern U.S. and Canada have inquired about our pets.

Carolina, a long–haired black kitten was one cat that brought Faina, her new owner, from Brooklyn, NY on March 13th to adopt who she said was "the one.”

One may ask, "Aren’t there any cats in Brooklyn?" We asked that question.  The answer was, "Not a long-haired kitten like Carolina." Another great match from our Humane Society.

PUPPERS Revisted
Puppers
Puppers was featured in our Fall 2009 edition.  Thanks to the wonderful folks at the Cardigan Welsh Corgi National Rescue Trust, Puppers, the last of our rescued corgis, went to his forever home in June, 2009.

His new owner writes, "Thought you might like a update on Puppers.....and as you can see he is doing super. What a charming old soul he is........loves to walk the yard, chew on a hoof, and even plays with a Corgi girl.

It took him awhile to really learn to get along and not be on the defensive........but being a Cardie he is super smart, and he has mellowed out.

Puppers continues to amaze us.  He definitely does not act his age. He has a sparkle in his eyes. His paws are a glistening white, and his coat is glossy.

What is most amazing is his exuberance for life.  We have over three fenced in acres. When he hears the other Cardigans bark clear on the other side he moves like the wind to join in the fun.

Of course he sleeps a great deal, and I must tell you, at night he has a special bed and on it is the soft furry monkey you gave him when he came here.

He definitely loves the kitchen area, and is first to hear his bowl being filled.

I put him on a Holistic dog food and he gets fresh yogurt every day.  He has a spring to his step, and a smile on his face. Like I tell Puppers, we can not change the past, but we can change the future........and his future is very bright and much loved and will be till the end.

Thank you for taking such excellent care of this kind old man."

PETEY
Petey, a 8 yr. old Golden Retriever, came to us stray. He was emaciated and sick weighing only 58 pounds, but had a spirit in his eyes that seemed to say…help me. We took him to the veterinarian and he is now 70 lbs.

Sharon, his new owner, has done wonders with him and says he gives him more than she give him. He walks a mile a day and thanks us for giving him a second chance.

LINDSAY

Board President Marilla Norton visited Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue in December. The rescue took 9 of our horses from our cruelty case last March 2009. Here Lindsay, who was nearly 500 pounds underweight is now thriving and more beautiful than ever.

We thank this wonderful rescue and Christine for her dedicated work.
