hoarding ISN'T HELPING
It is a problem for many cities and towns around the county. Hoarding is everywhere, even in Warren County.

The problem is with well-intentioned individuals who accept a few animals and then a few more, and/or their animals have litters and more litters.  A few animals turns into a horrendous calamity as more and more are added to the home.

Intervention is the best answer to serious collectors’ problems. Hoarding is a mental illness. Licensed hoarding therapists can help with hoarders recover.

Many animals die and suffer in hoarding situations.  Legal intervention by the local Humane Societies is frequently necessary.  The case from St. Mary’s just a month ago found 417 cats in one woman’s home.  Many organizations and volunteers helped get these cats to safety.

Hoarding hurts our cities, towns, counties, neighbors, owners and the animals.

bulletIf you find yourself or someone you know becoming involved with too many animals, call the Humane Society to seek advice and help.
bulletIf you have a neighbor or know of someone who may be hoarding animals, contact the Humane Society. You may be saving the lives of many animals!

JAIL INMATES VOLUNTEER FOR THE ANIMALS
We often are told stories of miracles and there seems to be someone watching over us and gives us what we need when we need it. We believe that at the Humane Society. In the late winter of 2009, Jail Warden Gerald Britton started a program of getting inmates out into the community to help non-profits. We were offered the opportunity for another worker at no cost to us and in return the inmates are given something to do during the day and be productive. They have made a difference in our lives here and help us beyond words. Thanks to Warden Britton and Chris Widdowson.

HELP UP SELECT A NEW NAME FOR THE HUMANE SOCIETY!

Why change the name of our Humane Society? Our Board of Directors has been discussing a new name since we built our new building. Many Humane Society’s across the country are naming themselves to coordinate with the work they do and not where they live. A more welcoming name that can get more animals adopted. Legally we will remain Warren County Humane Society.

The Humane Society provides many different services in our county, i.e. animal control, live trap rentals, rescue injured animals, provide volunteer and community service opportunities, sell dog license, cruelty officer to help neglected and/or abused animals,school tours and education of proper pet care in our communities.

Part of our mission is to care for animals, all animals, through veterinary care for the sick and injured; providing a warm, safe place for the homeless and to ultimately provide quality pet adoptions for all animals.

We are a not-for profit 501 (c) (3) organization in Pennsylvania and are not run by Warren County. We want to make sure our NEW name reflects all the good works we do for the animals. Even though we are not run by the county we are still an important part of Warren County. Just imagine if there was no place for the lost, sick, injured and homeless animals????

Soooo, get your “thinking caps on” and help us with a new name that will set a positive tone on our work. The entry period for the Contest begins on October 1, 2010 and will end on October 15, 2010 at 4:00pm.

The following rules apply:

  1. You must be at least 9 years old;

  2. You can submit as many ideas as you wish;

  3. All entries will be held confidential by the Board of Directors of the Humane Society;

  4. No purchase necessary to enter or win.

  5. Limit of 10 words

To enter the contest CLICK HERE.

Entries will be judged on “applicability”, “appropriateness”, “creativity”, and “uniqueness”. No phone calls, please. All submissions must be in English. Entry forms are available on our website or by stopping at the shelter. All entries will become the property of the Warren County Humane Society and will not be returned. By entering this contest entrants signify their acceptance of the official rules.

The final name will be decided by the Board of Directors of the Humane Society. If there is a duplicate entry, the first one received will be judged.

Prize will be a $100 savings bond and a personalized embroidered hoodie/jacket.

Prize is not redeemable for cash and no substitution, transfer, or assignment of prize permitted. Taxes on the prizes will be assumed by the Humane Society.

Note: Although we are not associated with a Government agency we want to gratefully acknowledge the support of the City, Boroughs, Townships and the County who, through their yearly funding, help us provide the services we offer.

A NEW CHALLENGE
This year the Humane Society has been asked many times by families to take their pets as they cannot afford them or have to move because they don’t have work here and can’t take their pet. The economy affects many in different ways. The number of cats turned in this summer and the stray animals left out in the woods to fend for themselves has increased. The Humane Society is here for all animals, giving them vet care and second chances.

plan for your future and theirs
Leave an important legacy
A will is perhaps the most important document you will prepare in your lifetime expressing your wishes for your property, investments and dependents. It also creates opportunities to support the Humane Society in Warren.

That support in turn helps us provide for the many homeless pets in need yearly. Do you need to update your will or are you concerned that you don’t have one? If so, it’s never too early to consider your estate plans, especially if you have pets.
